During a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the Iranian foreign minister condemned the United States for the downing of Iranian air flight 655 by the USS Vincennes. Vice President Bush delivered the official U.S. response, saying the incident was an unfortunate accident. He also criticized Iran and Iraq for continuing to ignore U.N. resolutions to end their war.
